The cultivar demos investigate existing, lesser-known and newly available cultivars, with the aim of expanding the range of cultivar options available to South African growers, helping them tackle the challenges associated with changing climate. The demos also serve to expose growers to additional cultivar options to meet their specific needs whether that may be maintaining consistently high quality, optimizing production or producing lower alcohol content wines. Qualities such as earlier ripening, smaller canopies for reduced water-use, optimal pH and higher acidity are a few of the identified cultivar attributes that may be of interest to growers when selecting cultivars for their site.
